About Me

Hi Friends!

My name is Jessica Burchman and I am from Plymouth, MA (about an hour south of Boston.) Ever heard of the Pilgrims, Plymouth Rock, or the Mayflower? Well, that's exactly from whence I hail. I went to school in the same area and graduated high school in 2013. Now, I live in Brooklyn Heights (BK all day, er' day!) and attend The King's College in Downtown Manhattan. I'm a sophomore majoring in business and hope to own a bakery one day when I'm old and retired. But, what I do from now until then is one GIANT mystery.

Where do I get my baking inspiration do you ask? Well, from the 6th grade to my senior year in high school, I watched the Food Network Channel and the Cooking Channel in my spare time. Even when I was home sick from school with a stomach bug and not wanting to even touch food, I was watching some cooking show. Baking quickly became a good friend of mine. I was able to channel all my energy into baking whenever I needed to. My older brother always told me that he liked me best when I was sick or stressed out because I would always bake some sort of confectionery good that he wouldn't have to do any work for.

As a sophomore in high school I started my first job working for Cupcake Charlie's (aka the best cupcakes on this planet! Go try one out if you're ever near one of their shops.) While working as a baking assistant, I created such a love for the food industry. Food is near and dear to my heart...in fact, its in my stomach.

I also have a Jewish grandma. So that means that when family is together, there is good food all the time. You pretty much have to eat every hour at grandma's house to make her happy. (And I certainly am not complaining. She's a fantastic cook!)

Moving on to flowers. So my other grandma, Nana, has gardened for as long as I could remember. I'm convinced that my love for flowers bloomed from her. I remember asking her so many questions about flowers when I started to learn about all the different kinds in the third grade. When I was a seventh grader, I planted my own garden in my front yard. It was one of the most rewarding experiences to physically see all the work that I accomplished. And now, I just can't resist a good bouquet of flowers from Trader Joe's or my favorite bodegas.

I hope you enjoy my blog as I write about my favorite recipes and flowers. If you can't already tell, they're two of my favorite things. And I apologize in advance for any corny humor or puns. Puns WILL happen frequently, and yes, they are intended. (Another one of my favorite things.) You have been warned.
